A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

Retro-style helicopter simulation built in the Godot Engine focused on easy to pick up mechanics. Fly around and test your skills with 3 different aircraft in a dynamic, mission-filled world.

I have three main goals with RotorSim:

  1. Design a helicopter simulation that mirrors the intricacies of aerodynamic behavior as closely as possible.
  2. Simplify the complex controls of a real helicopter, making it approachable and enjoyable for players without any flying experience or expensive hardware.
  3. Make the simulation lightweight and efficient as possible so it runs on older hardware and integrated graphics.

This is an ongoing project done in my free time which is sporadic at best. Join the discord for weekly updates and access to test builds!

Features:

  • Two levels of simulation to choose from that significantly change the experience.
  • Missions including search and rescue, cargo operations, and passenger transport.
  • Weather system that includes clear skies, rain, and storms.
  • A tutorial level and onboarding process.

What's Next?

  • Full art pass - buildings, helicopters, and interface will receive professional touch-ups.
  • Build more missions to a total of at least 30 and tell an interesting story.
  • Additional maps! I have 2 more planned.
  • Squash all the bugs and optimize further so this runs on even older hardware.

really cool, brings vibes somewhere in between simcopter and operation flashpoint!

Thanks, that was the goal! High praise 😁

Randomly found this game at like 1 AM, download was super easy, game start up was quick, understood the controls super quickly, and genuinely had fun just flying around. The music in the background also makes flying so much more chill.  Since its still just a beta, i expect more to come, like perhaps more maps, and bigger maps while still having options for both newer and older systems (as you mention in your goals, was to make it work for older hardware). Maybe have challenges within the game, like time trials, i get its supposed to just be a simulator, but for some people its nice to have a good,  finish hard challenge=cool reward system.  I recommend this game, even if you only play it for just 20 minutes.

Thank you so much! That means a lot. I'm actually working very hard on a mission system that tells a story as you progress 😀. Thinking about tying rewards like funny or unique game modes into completing the campaign.

I actually haven't even thought about time trials but that's a pretty cool idea, I might make an arcade mode that has a bunch of trials and is just a bunch of goofy fun.  And yes, new maps are in development. But that's a stretch goal for me as I want this first map to be very well made.

Again, thanks for the kind words it really helps keep my motivation high. Stay tuned, I'm working on a lot of cool additions!

Looks a little bit like SimCopter

That's the goal! Trying to capture that old school feel
